  IS THE LABOR MARKET IN BULGARIA SEGMENTED?

  The present study of the segmentation of the labor market in the country aims to enrich the existing body of knowledge relating to this issue. A methodological framework was elaborated to study the labor market segmentation by income and employment profiles, based on data from monitoring specific labor and specific income pursuant to individual observations of the National Statistics Institute. There is a link between a specific type of labor and a specific income in compliance with specific criteria to define available or non-available segmentation on the labor market. For the implementation of the specific assignments a survey methodology is proposed in conformity with the European Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) survey. Bulgaria is involved therein since 2006.

  Early theories of business cycle and their role on the development of economics

  This is a brief review of one of the most important theories about the factors causing cyclic fluctuations in economy. Starting from the postulates the classical economic school and its inability to explain the existence of prolonged deviations from full employment, and economic crises in particular, conclusions on the role of the early theories for the development of economic knowledge are drawn. A major contribution thereto are the presented key issues driving the search for the truth in economics until the present day: whether the economic system is stable; whether equilibria corresponding to employment levels different from full employment exist; how to treat the exogenous influences and whether the cyclic fluctuations result from one factor only.

  FACTORS INFLUENCING THE DEGREE OF COMPETITION IN THE TELECOM INDUSTRY

  The aim of this research is to identify which of Porter’s factors used to determine the degree of competition in an industry are also relevant to the sector of telecom. We use data from 30 European telecom markets to find empirical evidence for the validity of the factors that Porter defines in his five forces model – number and size of competitors, industry growth, degree of product differentiation, market exit barriers, capacity, switching costs, fixed costs, brand loyalty. We propose a better metric for judging the likely degree of competition in any given telecom market.

  Fiscal problems in the Eurozone

  The paper studies the status of public finances of the Eurozone countries in the period before the Euro was introduced. The fiscal rules system has been investigated, which was adopted with the Maastricht Treaty and the Stability and Growth Pact, aiming to avoid the generation of excess deficits and debt encumbrances by the Member-States. The application of this system of fiscal rules was analyzed, inclusive its shortcomings, most of which are considered as one of the reasons for the crisis encountered in the Eurozone. The „quality” of the system was estimated and possible approaches how to reform it were presented.

  The author has studied the problems, opportunities and challenges regarding FDI attracting trends in the Black Sea Region.The detailed analysis of the incoming FDI creates the general view about the investment climate within the group of heterogeneous states, in order to outline the key problems in the region. The focus is on the regional integration and its impact on attracting investments.

  Economic efficiency of real sector entities’ capital in terms of the Bulgarian legislation

  The object of the study is the economic efficiency of firms in the real sector of the economy, and the subject - the economic efficiency of the capital at their disposal in terms of the regulatory framework in Bulgaria. Through the application of the financial concept of capital and the theoretical concepts of economic efficiency, formulas and indicators are derived to measure the economic efficiency of the capital of firms in the real sector from this perspective. The practical significance of the knowledge of the economic efficiency of capital from the position of regulations is pointed out.

  National consultations on UN Development Agenda

  On 18.03.2014 at the Institute of Economic Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was held a National discussion on the draft UN Agenda for Sustainable Development for the period 2015-2030 - section. The discussion is in the framework of the coordination mechanism of the world organization and the discussions are on the priorities for water in the Agenda and in the document "Global Goal for water after 2015".
